EMERGENCY SHELTER

The Violence Prvention Center provides women and their dependent children, who are fleeing domestic violence, temporary shelter. During their shelter stay, residents receive support to empower themselves to live free of violence. Services include:

  • Case Management
    Specially trained staff and volunteers provide women and children with domestic violence education and safety planning. A Case Manager is assigned to each client to assist in developing a service plan to meet the immediate needs of that individual and her children. The Case Manager assists the client in meeting the service plan goals through linkage with the appropriate resources in the community. The ultimate goal is to assist the client with moving forward to a permanent safe environment.

  • Support Groups
    Groups are an important process at the shelter, where women and their children can share common experiences, fears and hopes. This enables participants to understand that they are not alone and that they can change their lives for the better.
     

  • Counseling
    Individual and group counseling is available through our Counseling Program for the women and their children who stay in the shelte

  • Legal Advocacy 
    Legal Advacacy services is available through our Legal Advocacy Program to assist the women in our shelter with obtaining Orders of Protection and other rights available to them under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act. 
     

  • Medical Services 
    A registered nurse provides medical assessments for every shelter resident

Shelter services are provided to men and their dependent/children as well as women with and without dependents.
